You pay a lot for new sod, so you want to make sure it gets the proper care it deserves.
Start watering (around one inch of irrigation) within a half an hour after the sod gets laid. For the next two weeks, water daily at the very least.
To check your sod’s moisture level, pull back a corner and push a screwdriver into the soil. It should push in easily for the first 3 to 4 inches. Otherwise, you need to irrigate more often.
As the grass starts to develop new roots, it will be harmful to pull back the sod. But you can still check the moisture depth by pushing it through the turf and into the soil.
